West Virginia - Syracuse Preview

Syracuse students agree: The WVU mascot is just a dude with a gun.
Syracuse is now at a critical point in the season. With a brutal four game stretch starting this Saturday, Syracuse will have to earn a win tonight to put a good foot forward. Standing in their way is a nice looking West Virginia squad, led by forward Da’Sean Butler, who is averaging 17.6ppg and 6.2rpg. Their best guard is Alex Ruoff, averaging 16.2ppg as well. Butler is also shooting 44% from behind the arc. This team, although coming off a loss, kept within six at Louisville as well. All signs point to this team being difficult to handle for the Orange. Arinze Onuaku should play, but he is most likely still not 100%. Andy Rautins is in a similar boat, being that he will play, but who knows how effective he will be on the floor. Additionally, there is a question as to if Syracuse will be able to play enough man defense to contain some of the long range shooting threats on the Mountaineer’s squad. However, Flynn and Devendorf have stepped up their game as of late, and being that they are in the Dome, this should not be a problem. Syracuse also should see good play from Rick Jackson and Paul Harris as well. This will be closer than Syracuse will like, but I predict a narrow victory over the ‘Eers. Syracuse by six.

Good luck to the Mountaineers, and a special shout out to John Radcliff of Mountainlair (who did a fantastic song about Greggers), as well as our friend Chris, a famed alumnus of WVU in Maine in the sports radio business, who will most likely die a little inside if the Orange triumph tonight.

Ugh, it's halftime and WVU is in their usual spot looking at a near double digit deficit.

Looking at Onuaku, I feel like Robbie Benson in One-on-One during the fight scene.

Johnny Flynn just isn't fair. He just isn't.

Jonny Flynn is the reason I still believe in Syracuse.
