If you do not know much about these two teams, you know two things; first that Syracuse is known for their 2-3 Zone defense, and that #12 California likes to shoot three pointers. I’m not going to treat you like an idiot like Dana O’Neil does here, but this is an obvious thing to watch for in the game. Cal will try and shoot Syracuse out of their famed defense, and then go inside, because as of right now California’s inside game is not even close to Syracuse’s. Arinze Onuaku and Rick Jackson have far superior post moves than Cal. However, California has a huge stud in shooter Jerome Randle, who is probably the best point guard in the Pac-10 and is shooting around 40% from behind the arc. Really though, Syracuse and more specifically Jim Boeheim is used to dealing with teams with good shooters, like most of the teams in the Big East. You know that Syracuse has seen the film and will be ready to try and stop this shooting threat. On top of that Syracuse has been good at limiting opponents 3’s this year. Syracuse is averaging more points than Cal and allowing less. While Syracuse has not played a team of the caliber of Cal, they haven’t played an opponent of the caliber of Syracuse either. Oh yeah, and this game is played in Madison Square Garden, a place Syracuse has epic games in. Syracuse should win this one and be playing at 7:00pm tomorrow. Syracuse over Cal by 9.
