Oh I see what you did there, with the U and the you're the bulls. Clever, clever.
So it is again time for lowly Syracuse to play a ranked opponent. Wonderful. Syracuse will travel down to Tampa, Florida to play the University of South Florida. Outstanding. How are we going to do? Uh… not well.
South Florida has a record of 5-1, 0-1 in the Big East. They went from being ranked #10 to #20, which is where you find us at this juncture playing them. This team is pretty good. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the Big East taking snaps for them. Matt Grothe through those six games has 1,304 yards and nine touchdowns. Grothe was never supposed to be this good mind you. He got thrown in his freshman year and he was not supposed to be awesome. Then between his freshman and sophomore year he was a bartender at a place in Florida and was ticketed for serving alcohol to minors. That was supposed to be a huge distraction to him, and it wasn’t. The guy is ugly as sin, and apparently that doesn’t hurt his chance with the ladies. So I ask you, where is the justice? So far every season he’s thrown about as many picks as touchdowns, but he has always played a great, even career game against Syracuse. He probably will again.
So, that must all mean I think Syracuse will lose. Oh indeed. The question remains by how much though. I’m going to be bold and actually pick a score this week. I’ll say the Bulls over the Orange by a score of 27 – 10. Bet on Grothe going at least 250 yards with three touchdowns. Bet on Syracuse looking like schmucks in the forth quarter. Other than that, the game will go just peachy.
Welcome to the halfway point in the season, where Syracuse has fewer games to go then they have played. This is a great fact, because not only is basketball closer to coming, but there are less opportunities for Syracuse to showcase their ineptness on the gridiron. While I love my Orange football team, I hate to see it suffer like it is. Someone needs to pull the cartridge out, blow on it, put it back in, and hit power. Until that happens, it will be more of the same I’m sad to say.
