Syracuse SMASH!
After a disappointing outing at home versus Northwestern, Syracuse travels to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ for a "home" game against #2 Southern California. USC is arguably the best team in the nation. But, and yes this is odd for me to say, Syracuse has the best offense in the nation right now thanks to Ryan Nassib's performance last weekend. Something obviously has to give.
Let me state off the top I do not think Syracuse pulls this massive upset. It's highly unlikely, though it would be awesome. USC just has too much talent. You saw the game last year probably. I mean it just doesn't favor the Orange. Really, again we know the Syracuse offense will play well. USC's secondary is actually somewhat vulnerable, despite the fact that it will be tough for Syracuse to run the ball. Additionally, Nassib is a veteran and takes care of the ball. But Matt Barkley is talented and USC's offense will also roll. The difference will be special teams and defense in this game. Not surprising. Field position will be key for the Orange. But really, whichever defense plays better and for longer will win this game. It will also help if Syracuse sustains offensive drives to keep USC's defense on the field and their offense off. Honestly, I think Marrone can out-coach Lane Kiffin in this one, but the talent on the field will rule the day. What helps is that USC is traveling from the West Coast and will play in some allegedly pretty serious rain. It will probably not be enough for Syracuse to pull off a miracle though. USC over the Orange 38 to 24.
This game will be broadcast by the always great Sean McDonough on ABC for the majority of the nation at 3:30pm EST. For others, it will be simulcast on ESPN 2, and should be available on ESPN 3. A lot of people are heading to the game so have fun and enjoy. Stay dry out there. I'll be watching on my phone most likely at a wedding with John Brennan, so minimal Twitter chatting today. Either way, we may not want to say "another USC touchdown".
