Cornell - Syracuse Preview

Syracuse students agree: The Ivy League sucks at sports.
Syracuse was the team of the week and the toast of the country last week. This week they need to keep proving it because for Feast Week they have Central New York rival Cornell traveling up Route 13 and 81 to take on Syracuse. I doubt this has any impact on the day’s game, but I’ll first mention that this is a rematch in teams from Cornell’s bitter, literally last second defeat at the hands of Syracuse’s lacrosse team in the NCAA Tournament last year. On top of that, this Cornell team was in the tournament the last two years, winning the Ivy League. Their best player, forward Ryan Wittman, is an excellent player that can shoot and averages 17 points a game. The only problem for Cornell is that Syracuse is a really good team. Their zone defense shut down the three point shooting of UNC and Cornell is not nearly as good of a team. There should not be an upset special today, no matter how good Cornell shoots. Syracuse is a much bigger team, and Arinze Onuaku and Rick Jackson will own the post and pull down most of the rebounds in this game. The Big Red couldn’t manage to beat a Seton Hall in their own gym. A team I’m fairly sure Syracuse would destroy. Additionally Wes Johnson is riding high from his performance in New York City, and will surely be ready to feed of off the newly top ten momentum. Syracuse over Cornell by a gorge, about 24 points.

A programming note: I’ll have a recap of the weekend, including UNC, as well as this game coming tonight or tomorrow. Stay tund.
