Fordham - Syracuse Preview

Syracuse students agree: Fordham has a cute mascot but will lose badly.
Syracuse learned a massive lesson in the first half of the Cornell game. That was, you better pay attention on defense. Cornell's open shooters gave the Big Red a nice cushion. It took Trevor Cooney, of all players, to get Syracuse back in the lead and allow them to cruise in the second half. While no player will consistently hit seven long field goals in a game, Syracuse should come out ready to play Fordham tough from the jump this time. Jerami Grant will be suited up and will see some action in this game. That is the good news for Syracuse who, although Fair had 19 points, failed to be consistent on the floor on offense. If Syracuse can contain Fordham's Jon Severe from going off like some of the Cornell shooters, Syracuse should have a relatively comfortable win. However, if Syracuse fails to block out shooters, and gives up too many defensive rebounds for second chance points, Syracuse could be in for a rough first half again. Syracuse used transition buckets, specifically Cooney stopping and hitting, to get the momentum from Cornell and on their side. Obviously Fordham is fairly athletic, but they will probably not be able to run with Syracuse for 40 minutes. I think, pending another epic outburst of threes, Syracuse should have a nice comfortable win. And look for CJ Fair to settle down into the go to, leadership roll for this club after having seven turnovers against Cornell. I'm picking the Orange to win by 24. This game is available on Watch ESPN online exclusively at 7:30pm.
