ZooMass Lacrosse: Catch The Beating!

When not rioting from the Sox or Pats, I enjoy group lawbreaking and cuddling.
Eight members of the University of Massachusetts Amherst lacrosse team have been suspended. Inside Lacrosse and The Boston Herald via the AP have reported that the eight players were suspended for violating team rules. The school failed to confirm or deny if the suspensions resulted from an incident last Friday in Amherst where a fight broke out. Authorities are still investigating.

Freshman Chris Casey, freshman Jay Lucas, freshman Ryan Marcus, freshman Alex Whitney, sophomore Chris Haggerty, redshirt sophomore Jordan Hendry, junior Justin Kelleher, and junior Jim Connolly have been suspended from the team. Connolly (pictured above) was a preseason honorable mention All-American attackman who scored 37 points last season, three of which came on goals against Syracuse. Freshman Ryan Marcus was a top 100 recruit according to Inside Lacrosse.
This leaves UMass with a slight roster problem and in need of some more offense. The police and university are still investigating the incident from last Friday, but it appears some of the lax boys got a big frisky and got into a fight. It was contested if the fight involved using lacrosse sticks as weapons or not. All in all, not a smart activity for young men on a lacrosse team to engage in. This is bad for these young men, the university, and lacrosse as a whole. Syracuse is scheduled to play Massachusetts on April 26th in the Carrier Dome. Obviously it is too early to tell if these players will be suspended for that contest or not. However, with the season starting in less than a month I would probably be slightly worried if I was their coach. Stay tuned for further updates as this develops. Hat tip to Jill and Vito, loyal Orange::44 readers for the heads up. Her boss at Staples will love this.
